Dirk Jol

Dirk Jol of Cambridge, Nova Scotia passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at the age of 87. He is now rejoicing in his heavenly home. He was born July 6, 1936, in Scheveningen, The Netherlands to Arie and Sophia Jol. Dirk immigrated to Canada in March 1955. He married Maria Dedden in Guelph, Ontario in July 1962. He went to the University of Guelph to study laboratory animal science and had 4 children while living there. Dirk and his family moved to Coquitlam, British Columbia in 1977 to work at Simon Fraser University to manage the animal research facility. He worked at SFU until he retired in 2000. Dirk married Henny Feddema in July 2009, and together they spent many years traveling. They then settled in Cambridge, Nova Scotia.

Dirk is survived by his wife, Henny Feddema, her son, her son-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Loek (Janny) Jol; his son, Harry (Carleen) Jol and their children, Brianna (Jeremy) and Connor; his daughters, Audrey (Peter) Charney and their children, David and Ruby; Sylvia (Mark) Stadt and their children, Melissa, Emily (Robert), and Jessica; Maureen (Michael) Pullen and their children, Kasey and Ben; and their mother, Maria Jol. Dirk is predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Dieske and Ineke Jol; and Henny’s daughter, Bernice DeVos.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation, by request. You are invited to attend Dirk’s funeral service which will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 28th in the New Covenant Community Church, Cambridge (6424 Highway 1, Cambridge). For those unable to attend, a video webcast will be available online on Saturday, June 29th. A private interment will take place in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Berwick.
