Catherine "Cathy" Lynn Thomas

1957-2024

Catherine "Cathy" Lynn Thomas

It is with profound sadness for our family to announce that Catherine "Cathy" Lynn Thomas –67, of South Alton, Kings County, passed away peacefully in her sleep with her loving husband by her side on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. Born in Kentville, Kings County, February 3, 1957, she was a daughter of the late Chesley Verl and Helena Patricia (Redmond) Redden. Cathy was a thoughtful, nurturing and most-of-all, loving, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law, and dear friend to many.

Cathy enjoyed 37 years of employment as a bookkeeper at Roscoe Construction. Cathy was an avid camper at Keji, where she and her husband of nearly 45 years kayaked, watched sunsets and listened to the majestic loons. Cathy was known for her big curly hair and proudly cheering for her sons’ teams in hockey arenas and on soccer fields throughout Nova Scotia. Cathy learned how to drive a Harley Davidson when she was 54, enjoyed snowshoeing, baking, walking, campfires on the beach, gardening, music, dancing, and her countless adventures with Shirley, Karen and Davelyn. Cathy excelled in her many roles with an unmatched zest for life, and being a grandmother was held dearly in her heart. Cathy was a wonderful "Gramma" who created special memories with each of her grandchildren.

Cathy is survived by her husband, William "Bill", South Alton; two sons, Ben, British Columbia; Matthew (Melissa), Alberta; three grandchildren, Juliette, Easton and Camden; a brother, Everett (Sue), South Alton; three sisters, Pauline (Donald), South Alton; Diane, White Rock; Carolyn (Brian), Kentville. She was predeceased by her brother, Eric, and her sister, Patricia.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024, in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, will begin at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2024.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Cathy may be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation, where Cathy received exceptional care, or the Victorian Order of Nurses for Canada, in honour of the nurses that visited Cathy at home and provided outstanding support to Cathy and her family.

The family is grateful for the spiritual guidance graciously provided by Reverend Judy Saunders and thankful for the overwhelming support provided by Cathy’s sisters and friends who dropped off meals and helped with the household, who truly demonstrated what family and friendship are all about.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, staff members, and volunteers who helped Cathy fight her battle against pancreatic cancer with braveness, strength and an indomitable spirit that will live on in all those graced by her kind heart.
