Dale Oscar Starratt

Dale Oscar Starratt

May 19, 1939 – May 23, 2024

Dale passed peacefully away in bed on Thursday, May 23, 2024.

He is pre-deceased by the two great loves in his life, Donna (Smith) d.1993 and Donna (Haley) d.2018

He is survived by sons, Mark and Jeffrey; grandsons, Joshua and Jacob; granddaughter, Victoria; and through his second marriage family, Julie (Al), Jill (Peter), Scott (Becky), and Adam (Shawna); grandchildren Taylor, Ethan, Wyatt, Ben, Cabella and Carley.

Born in Avonport, he was the middle son of Oscar and Jean (Walsh) Starratt.

Dale drove a truck for Gates and Watson in the 60s and continued to work there after ownership changed to H.B. Legge in the early 70s. Tiring of always being on the road, he took formal training at the College of Cape Breton to build on his natural mechanical skills. He worked as a mechanic for Legge until he retired in 1994.

In 1973 Dale arrived home riding tall on a brand new Honda 350. His passion for riding was re-kindled and became a huge part of his family’s life. His joy for the open road was much greater with his head under a helmet than the cab of a truck. He was a member in good standing with The Apple Valley Riders Motorcycle Club shortly after its inception, taking on various executive roles over the years. Vice President Starratt stood with President Mason at the final Bluenose Motorcycle Rally in 2022.

Blessed with the ability to make friends wherever he goes, Dale found a trusted friend in Barb Kennedy at her Boarding home for Seniors. She made his final years meaningful with her care and love.
