Barbara Joyce "Barb" Bishop

Barbara Joyce "Barb" Bishop passed away peacefully in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, surrounded by her family on April 12, 2023. Barb was the eldest child of the late Archibald and Sadie (Sanford) Tracey. She was born on May 27, 1932 in Scotch Village, Hants County. She is survived by her sister, Kay Gillespie; her children, Sharon (Ralph) Comeau, John (Diane Rattray) and Valerie Brannon; six grandchildren, Nicole Griffin, Reneé Forsythe, Jason Comeau, Tracey Bishop, James Rattray, Stephanie Brannon; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; as well as many nieces, nephews and her special friend, Francis Ray. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred Bishop; her parents; her brothers, Bill and Jim Tracey, sisters, Irene Spicer and Pat Emerson and grandson, Shawn Brannon. After spending many years living in Kentville, Montreal, Quebec and Saint John, NB, she moved to New Minas where she worked for Zellers until her retirement. Barb was also an avid volunteer in the community. Barb enjoyed spending time with her much beloved family at her cabin at Baxters Harbour. She loved playing cards with good friends, Roseanne and Terry. Whenever she wasn’t playing cards, she could be found enjoying music at one of the local jam sessions. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 17, 2023 from 6-8 p.m. in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. A webcast of the service will be available on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. In lieu of flowers, donations in Barb’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
